Sadie's Bistro is a tribute to the owner's great-grandmother, Sadie, whose passion for cooking and teaching has left a lasting legacy. She epitomized authentic Lebanese hospitality, passing on these values to her daughter, Gayle, who, in turn, shared them with Julian. To pay homage to Sadie and her passion for food, Sadie’s Bistro logo mark and brand identity were inspired by her handwriting, taken from an old post card, forever capturing the spirit of the beloved Sadie.

The 'Food is Love' badge is inspired by the cherished Lebanese tradition of exceptional hospitality and delicious cuisine. This badge serves as a symbol of these values, reminding us and our customers of the important role food plays in creating unforgettable moments.
The visual language, inspired by Sadie’s handwriting, reveals a striking resemblance to Lebanese alphabet characters when deconstructed, subtly nodding to her heritage and passion for food. Additionally, when arranged into a pattern, these characters reflect the aesthetics of African art and design, highlighting the restaurant's location in downtown Johannesburg, South Africa.
